Lubbock’s Halloween week offers more than one way to fill a candy bag — and more than one reason to get the family out of the house.

The useful question is which outing fits your crew: a campus carnival, hands-on science, a farm adventure or an evening downtown.

Tuesday, October 27, starts the week’s featured picks with Tech or Treat at the Texas Tech Student Union Building, at 15th Street and Akron Avenue.

The program runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with free parking in R-11 and Z lots beginning at 5 p.m.

The university is also accepting book donations benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center.

On Friday, October 30, Science Spectrum’s Spooky Science Carnival runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at 2579 South Loop 289.

Geared toward families with children up to age 12, it combines experiments, carnival games, live animals and science demonstrations.

The emphasis is spooky rather than frightening, and the museum asks families to avoid scary costumes.

Lobby trick-or-treating is free; activities throughout the museum are included with standard museum admission.

For a longer outdoor outing, At’l Do Farms has its corn maze, younger-child trail, barnyard and seasonal activities at 6323 FM 1294.

The farm’s published season runs through November 7, including regular Halloween hours.

Admission costs $10 Tuesday through Thursday; Friday through Sunday tickets are $13 online or $15 at the gate, with children four and younger free.

Weather is the planning detail to watch: the farm posted a rain closure for Sunday, October 25, so check its current notice before driving out.

Downtown, Mo’s Monster Mash is scheduled in the Depot District on Saturday, October 31, from 5 to 10 p.m.

The organizer lists free family trunk-or-treating from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a night market and dance party.

Choose one outing, leave room for weather changes, and enjoy a week when Lubbock gives families several different ways to celebrate.
